Event information

How do I register?

You can register here. It only takes two minutes to sign up!

Is there a registration fee?

No - this challenge is completely FREE! All we ask is that you raise what you can.

How do I take part?

The Hope Half Hour is your time to shine, in your choice of location! Walk 30 minutes every day. It’s that simple.

Can I start before or after the 1st January?

The time trackers will start from the 1st January, so only walks from that date will be counted. You can start fundraising before then though! That way you have more time to earn yourself a bespoke medal.

What do I get for doing the Hope Half Hour?

If you raise over £100, we’ll send you a bespoke medal to wear with pride. Keep an eye out for other prizes being offered along the way!

Can I meet others taking part?

Definitely! Join our Facebook group here to share photos, tips and fundraising advice with the rest of our wonderful walkers.

Is this event Covid secure?

Absolutely. You can take part in the Hope Half Hour safely in a location of your choice, so there’s no need to mix with others while you walk.

Fundraising

Is there a minimum amount to be raised?

There’s no fundraising target for the Hope Half Hour, we just ask you to raise as much as you can to support our life-saving work. Don’t forget, £100 could earn you a bespoke medal for your efforts!

  •  £100 allows 5 people to get support from our Helpline nurses
  • £100 funds a day of research
  • £100 pays for 8 school air pollution monitors

How do I start fundraising?

Your online fundraising page will be created as part of the sign-up process. All the amazing donations you receive will then be sent to your chosen charity automatically, so all you need to do is share your page and spread the word!

Do I have to fundraise online?

Online fundraising is by far the easiest way! If you do receive any donations offline, you can simply make a donation to your page for that amount with a debit/credit card. Don’t forget, if you’re paying money into your own page you can’t claim Gift Aid.

Where is my money going?

  • If you choose to fundraise for Asthma UK, your fundraising will go towards stopping asthma attacks and, ultimately, curing asthma. We fund world-leading research, campaign for change and support people with asthma to reduce their risk of a potentially life-threatening asthma attack. If you need advice, call the Asthma UK helpline on 0300 222 5800 or WhatsApp our nurses on 07378 606728.
  • If you choose to fundraise for the British Lung Foundation, you’ll allow our researchers to find new treatments and cures. You’ll enable us to campaign for better policies on lung health. And you’ll help people to get lifesaving advice from our support services. Our work is vital. If you need advice, you can call the British Lung Foundation helpline on 03000 030 555.

Tracking your challenge

What fitness tracker can I use?

Fitness Apps, like Strava or Fitbit are the easiest way. You can link your fitness app to your fundraising page to get a running (or walking!) total. Just follow these steps to track your minutes automatically:

  1. When logged into your account, under the heading ‘My Fitness Activity’, click your chosen app and follow the prompts to connect your account
  2. When you next work out, select ‘start your workout’ in the app on your phone. Once you end your workout, save your workout and your distance will be published to the tally on your page the following day.

If you want to manually add your minutes, simply log in to your account and select ‘My Fitness Activity’. Then under ‘Add activity’, enter the date and length of time you were walking.

I don’t have a fitness tracker, can I still take part?

Yes! You don't need to use a fitness app to join the Hope Half Hour, you can track your time manually. To do this, go to the 'My Fitness Activity' section on your dashboard and scroll down to the 'Add activity' section.

What if I miss a day?

No problem! You can walk half an hour extra the next day. You could even split your daily half hour into 10 minute bursts, to make it easier to fit around your routine.

I’ve walked extra to make up for a missed day. How do I add this progress?

If you walk half an hour extra to make up for a missed day, you can add this time manually.

Simply go to the 'My Fitness Activity' section on your dashboard and scroll down to the 'Add activity' section. Add the date of the day you missed and the extra minutes, then the progress calendar on your profile will update automatically!
