About Our Everest

What is Our Everest?

Our Everest is a brand-new challenge from Asthma UK and British Lung Foundation. The goal of Our Everest is to walk 130km in January, the same distance as the iconic Everest Base Camp trek. Also, to raise as much as you can for lung health!

How do I register and is there a registration fee?

It couldn't be easier to join us! You can register here and it’s totally free. There’s no minimum sponsorship, but £100 will get you a limited-edition medal.

What do I get for completing my challenge?

You can collect badges on your fundraising page when you hit key milestones in your journey. If you raise over £100 you also get your own limited-edition medal.

What is the minimum amount of sponsorship I have to raise?

There’s no minimum sponsorship, but if you raise £100 you’ll be rewarded with a bespoke Our Everest medal. Why? £100 could fund a whole day of vital research, helping to improve the care and treatment of people with lung disease.

Where is my money going if I choose to fundraise for the British Lung Foundation?

By fundraising for the British Lung Foundation, you’ll allow our researchers to find new treatments and cures. You’ll enable us to campaign for better policies on lung health. And you’ll help people to get lifesaving advice from our support services. Our work is vital. During the Coronavirus pandemic, record numbers of people came to us for advice and support. Calls to our Helpline nurses tripled. Lung disease sufferers needed us more than ever, and we were a lifeline for them. We’re so proud to offer this service. But we can’t do it without fantastic fundraisers like you.

If you need advice, you can call the British Lung Foundation helpline on 03000 030 555.

Where is my money going if I choose to fundraise for Asthma UK?

Asthma UK works to stop asthma attacks and, ultimately, cure asthma by funding world leading research and scientists, campaigning for change and supporting people with asthma to reduce their risk of a potentially life threatening asthma attack.

We are currently working tirelessly to offer support and life-saving advice in light of COVID-19. Please help us to deliver the best service we can in these extraordinary circumstances.

If you need advice, call the Asthma UK helpline on 0300 222 5800 or WhatsApp our nurses on 07378 606728.

Where can I chat to the rest of Team Everest?

We would love for you to join our online community here. You’ll feel so motivated by sharing your tips and stories with others who are trekking Everest with you!

We’ve got lots of goodies to help you boost your total! If you’re fundraising for the British Lung Foundation you can find them here. If you’re fundraising for Asthma UK your resources are here.

Do I have to fundraise online?

During these challenging times we recommend that you do, but you don’t have to!

If you’re taking on Our Everest for Asthma UK you can find fundraising goodies here and you can pay in offline donations here

How do I make the most of my fundraising?

Our events teams are always on hand to give you help and advice with your fundraising. To get the ball rolling, here are our top tips:

  • Encourage friends and family to conquer Our Everest and join the challenge!
  • Set a fundraising target, we recommend £100 so you can get your medal
  • Share your fundraising page on social media and email
  • Personalise your fundraising page with your story and why you want to make a difference
  • Post your progress. Let your supporters know how you’re doing
  • Gift Aid it - remind your sponsors to Gift Aid their donation. This adds an extra 25% to every donation at no extra cost to you or your sponsors!

What do I do if I get donations by cash or cheque?

You can add an Offline Donation! Once you're logged in, go to My Donations and click the blue button that says ‘Add Offline Donation’

Tracking your challenge

When can I start my challenge?

Distance tracking will start from the 1st January, so only walking distance from that date will be counted. You can start fundraising straight away though!

What fitness tracker can I use?

Fitness Apps, like Strava or Fitbit are the easiest way. You can link your fitness app to your fundraising page to get a running (or walking!) total. Just follow these steps to track your KMs automatically:

  1. Under the heading ‘My Fitness Activity’, click your chosen app and follow the prompts to connect your account
  2. When you next work out, select ‘start your workout’ in the app on your phone. Once you end your workout, save your workout and your distance will be published to the tally on your page the following day.

If you want to manually add your KMs, simply log in to your account and select ‘My Fitness Activity’. Then under ‘Add activity’, enter the date and distance

I don’t have a fitness tracker, can I still take part?

Yes! You don't need to use a fitness app to join Our Everest, you can add your distance manually. To do this, go to the 'My Fitness Activity' section on your dashboard and scroll down to the 'Add activity' section.
