What is Pump Up Your Lungs?
Pump Up Your Lungs is a brand-new virtual challenge from Asthma UK and the British Lung Foundation. You can cycle 140 miles, the same as the iconic Coast to Coast route. Or if you want to push yourself that bit more, 300 miles, the same as London to Paris!
How do I register and is there a registration fee?
The registration process couldn’t be any smoother. You can join us here, and the best part? It’s free.
What is the minimum amount of sponsorship I have to raise?
There isn’t a set minimum sponsorship for Pump Up Your Lungs, but raising £100 will earn you a bespoke medal for your efforts.
Did you know, £100 could fund a whole day of vital research, helping to improve the care and treatment of people with lung disease.
A medal and a whole day of research, talk about feel good!

Where can I chat to the rest of #TeamBreathe?
The rest of the club is waiting for you! You can join our friendly group here. Share your cycling stories, your fundraising tips and make some memories together.
Can I join a Strava club for this challenge?
Pump Up Your Lungs has its own Strava club which you can join here. Don’t forget to give kudos to other riders, it’s like giving a wave when on your ride, but virtually!
Can I use an indoor bike?
Of course! Pump Up Your Lungs is a challenge for everybody. If you have a fitness tracker for your indoor bike, then you’ll just need to connect it to your page. Don’t worry if not, you can add your miles manually here.
Can teams take part and if so, how?
We know that cycling alone can sometimes feel intimidating, so we would love for you to sign up as a team. You can join a team or create your own as part of the sign up process. Once you're all done, why not invite your friends to join!
Can I take part in a wheelchair?
Absolutely! If you are taking part in a wheelchair we recommend purchasing a bicycle odometer to measure the distance you travel or sync using your preferred app.
How do I set up a fundraising page?
Your fundraising page will be created as part of the sign up process! All the generous donations your page gets will come to your chosen charity automatically, leaving you to focus on spinning the wheels and spreading the word.
Do I have to fundraise online?
It’s definitely the easier way to fundraise, but we know sometimes you can’t beat the traditional methods.
How do I add cash or cheque donations?
You can add these as an ‘Offline Donation’. Once you're logged in, go to My Donations and click the blue button that says ‘Add Offline Donation’
When can I start my challenge?
Your miles will only be counted from May 1st, so training miles don’t count towards your official total, but that’s not going to stop you training early is it?
What fitness tracker can I use?
Fitness Apps, like Strava or Fitbit are the easiest way. You can link your fitness app to your fundraising page to get a running total. Just follow these steps to track your miles automatically:
- Under the heading ‘My Fitness Activity’, click your chosen app and follow the prompts to connect your account
- When you next work out, select ‘start your workout’ in the app on your phone. Once you end your workout, save your workout and your distance will be published to the tally on your page the following day.
If you want to manually add your miles, simply login to your account and select ‘My Fitness Activity’. Then under ‘Add activity’, enter the date and distance.
Please note, fitness activity from active devices can take up to 24hrs to sync to your fundraising platform and will incorporate miles from any activity including walking and running.
I don’t have a fitness tracker, can I still take part?
You definitely can, you can add your distance manually. To do this, go to the 'My Fitness Activity' section on your dashboard and scroll down to the 'Add activity' section.
How do I manually edit my fitness activity?
Who can I get in touch with if I need help?
If you’ve got any questions, please send an email to email@example.com or contact us by phone 0300 222 5800. One of the friendly Events Team will be in touch as soon as possible!
What happens if somebody donates to my team, will their donation show on my fundraising page?
Donations that are made directly to the team fundraising page will not sit with one individual fundraiser but show as part of the team total.
If a donation is made to an individual fundraising page, this will show on that page but it will also show as part of the team total.
If we sign up as a team, do we complete one distance together or are distances individual?
The distance target is per individual, which you choose 140 miles or 300 miles at sign up.
