Our Everest - BLF

My target 130 kms

1 in 5 people in the UK have a lung condition. I want to make a difference this New Year

I’m taking on Our Everest for the BLF this January. I’m walking 130km, the same as the Everest Base Camp trek, because 2021 will be a mountain to overcome for people with lung disease.

Just £14 could fund an hour of life saving research. I'd be very grateful for any donations you could make!

The more people that know about British Lung Foundation, the greater their impact, so please help get the word out by sharing my page with your friends and family.

Walk 9: 54.5km

Saturday 23rd Jan
We did it! The big one to finish the Everest challenge. I cannot honestly believe just how far I walked today. I couldn’t have done it without my amazing friends, family and everyone else supporting me along the way so thank you so much for that. I know my Dad would be eternally grateful for all of the donations and support I have had in order to give hope to others with similar conditions to his. I am devastated that he wasn’t there to see me at the finish line as I know how much he wanted to but I felt his constant drive and support along the way. He was the most amazing man and I will miss him every single day.

£2000!

Friday 22nd Jan
Thank you all so much for the generous donations. We have raised a staggering £2000 ahead of the big walk tomorrow. As many of you know the circumstances have changed and my dad, the man who inspired me to do this challenge, sadly passed away on Thursday. I am devastated that he won’t get to see me finish this challenge and he will be extremely missed in so many people’s lives. Words cannot describe what a kind, brave and generous man he was.

Walk 8

Tuesday 19th Jan
The final 10k before the big 52km walk. I forgot to stop the timer when we finished I promise. Good news is the new waterproof worked in the rain. Great success!

Walk 7

Monday 18th Jan
Walked down to London Bridge and down the Bermondsey Beer Mile again just to make Blue Monday even more depressing with no pubs open.

Walk 6

Monday 18th Jan
Did the Thames riverside walk again from my flat down to millennium bridge and through the city. Seemed as though the whole of London had the same idea!

Walk 5

Sunday 17th Jan
Another one with my housemate. Didn’t stop raining all day. Had to buy a waterproof so I don’t end up 52km later looking like a drowned rat.

Walk 4

Sunday 10th Jan
Slow one today in the rain. Stopped for coffee on the way which might explain the speed? Might just be making excuses who knows.

Walk 3

Thursday 7th Jan
Another post work walk with Jamie my housemate. We went down to Greenwich park. Note to all; park shuts at 6pm and it’s not fun getting locked in.

Walk 2

Wednesday 6th Jan
My housemate and I did the second 10k after work today. On the way back we wandered down the Bermondsey Beer Mile hoping for a takeaway pint. No luck. Cheers Boris. Onto the next one.

Walk 1

Wednesday 6th Jan

Walk 1

Saturday 2nd Jan
I started the first 10km with the thameside river walk with my girlfriend. We walked from Canada Water to Millennium Bridge and then back to Borough Market.

It takes 9 days to reach base camp

Monday 14th Dec
Hi all

I’ve been thinking of how I could split this walk up to challenge myself a bit. It takes climbers 9 days to reach base camp which includes two rest days to account for altitude and gradient.

My plan therefore is to also complete the walk in 9 days (not consecutively). This will be structured as follows:

8x 10km walks (numerous friends and my girlfriend have volunteered to join me on these)
1x 51km walk from my flat in south east London to my parents house in Hertfordshire.

I greatly appreciate all the support so far, thank you!

James
